    Doctors attempted to save him for approximately 45 minutes, but he could not be revived. His death was confirmed at 5:20am, the report stated. Patekar began his acting career in 1978 with the film Guman and remained associated with the film industry for several decades.

    He appeared in several successful films, including Krantiveer, Paranda, Welcome and Ab Tak Chappan. During his career, he received three National Film Awards and was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013. Indian film personalities and political leaders have expressed grief over his death.
