The two Sunday bazaars had been declared security risks and temporarily closed around a fortnight ago. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had stated that they would reopen once foolproof security arrangements were in place. Following their sudden closure, traders' goods, including garments, jackets, shoes, household utensils, hosiery, cosmetics, toys and plasticware, remained locked inside the stalls.
However, during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, between 2am and 3am, the entire G-10 Sunday Bazaar was bulldozed, effectively ending its existence permanently. Goods worth millions of rupees belonging to traders were also destroyed.
When residents reached the site in the morning, they found the entire bazaar demolished, with goods, tents, makeshift shops and iron railings scattered across the area. The stallholders condemned the sudden demolition of their shops, saying they should have been given an opportunity to remove their belongings.
