He later joined the group Mystic Merlin before launching his solo career. Jackson released his debut album, Rock Me Tonight, through Capitol Records in 1985. The album established him as a major R&B performer, with “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)” reaching No. 1 on the R&B chart for six weeks.
“You Are My Lady” became another defining recording. His other recognised songs included “Tasty Love”, “Have You Ever Loved Somebody”, “Jam Tonight”, “Do Me Again”, “Nice ’N’ Slow” and “Love Me Down”. Jackson also received two Grammy Award nominations in 1986.
