In a statement issued on Saturday, Siddiqui said the people of Karachi would come out in large numbers for the public referendum and play their role in bringing about change. He said people were not slaves and had to take practical steps to change the destiny of the nation.
He added that he wanted the fruits of democracy to reach the doorsteps of ordinary Pakistanis and would continue to advocate for transferring power to the grassroots. Meanwhile, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said the creation of new administrative units in the country had become inevitable.
He claimed that six administrative units would be formed and alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would not allow people in Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah and Karachi to exercise authority over the creation of administrative units. Sattar also criticised governance in Sindh, saying the province was facing serious administrative problems.

He argued that deterioration in governance made the transfer of powers necessary and said people were seeking an empowered local government system.
