Atta Tarar raises questions over KP Govt's response to rising terrorism

A total of 1,584 people have also been injured or disabled as a result of terrorism in the province, averaging around seven people a day, while the attackers involved in 19 suicide bombings reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year were Afghan nationals,. Cross-border firing and drone attacks from Afghan territory have further complicated the security situation in the province.

The KP government has continued to insist on negotiations with Afghanistan, while operations against terrorists are also being conducted. The provincial government has also been criticised for failing to take adequate measures to implement the National Action Plan aimed at preventing terrorism.

The province is also facing challenges including extortion, kidnapping for ransom and the nexus between crime and terrorism. The continued silence of the KP government over terrorism and alleged Afghan incursions, its absence from funerals, failure to hold Apex Committee meetings and lack of measures to enhance the capabilities of police and the Counter Terrorism Department have also been questioned.

Tarar’s remarks come amid heightened security concerns in KP, where militant violence has remained a major challenge. Independent data also indicates sustained terrorist activity in the province during 2026.
