The rumour was circulated through a black-and-white image carrying Chan’s name and the years “1954–2026”, giving the impression that the 72-year-old actor had passed away., the post received more than 3.8 million views within just five hours. Chan has been the target of similar death rumours in the past.
A 2011 report claiming that he had died of a heart attack was rejected by his team, while another death claim in 2022 was also found to have no credible evidence. Chan, whose film career spans more than six decades, attended the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and was recognised for his contribution to cinema.
The actor is known internationally for films including Rush Hour, Police Story and Drunken Master. The latest “1954–2026” posts are therefore false, and social media users are advised to verify reports about the deaths of public figures through credible sources before sharing them.
