    Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said global oil prices had increased significantly, prompting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to launch a special relief programme for the public amid the prevailing situation. She said the prime minister had also announced that registration messages for the scheme would be completely free.

    The government has removed the previous five-litre limit per fuel token. Also Read:Petrol price cut by Rs1.65, diesel also becomes cheaper in Pakistan. Motorcyclists, Qingqi riders and rickshaw drivers who purchase less than five litres of petrol will receive a weekly discount of Rs500, she added.

    Fatima said all motorcycles and Qingqis registered after January 1, 2006, would be eligible to register for the scheme., 91.6 percent of registrations under the programme are for two- and three-wheelers, while vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc account for 8.4 percent.
