IISLAMABAD —Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday to discuss proposals concerning the abolition of the petroleum levy and possible relief on fuel prices. Sources said the meeting is scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad in the afternoon.
Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch will also attend, while several other members of the party’s negotiating team are expected to participate. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Ali Pervaiz Malik and Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah are also expected to attend the meeting, sources said.
The discussions are expected to focus on the petroleum levy, fuel prices and potential measures the government could consider to provide relief to consumers. The meeting follows Jamaat-e-Islami’s announcement of a long march against the levy imposed on petroleum products.
