Aqib Javed holds Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed responsible for England Test defeat

Speaking during an interview, Aqib discussed the unusual changes made to Pakistan’s squad and said selectors were prepared to accept responsibility for their decisions. However, he argued that the team combination required during the England tour was not being achieved.

Aqib said he had also discussed the issue with both captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed., the captain and coach must take responsibility for ensuring that the playing XI is selected ’s strategy and conditions.

“When the coach and captain are not able to take decisions, someone has to take action,” Aqib said, adding that Pakistan’s inability to compete effectively had become a source of criticism internationally.

He said the changes made to the squad should also send a clear message to the players that the playing XI must be built around the team’s overall plan. Aqib stressed that responsibility does not rest solely with the selectors, saying the captain, coach and team management all have important roles in determining the team’s combination and performance.

He also expressed concern over the limited number of players within the Pakistan squad who could potentially take on leadership responsibilities. “In the entire Pakistan cricket team, you will find very few players who can be given the leadership of the team,” Aqib said.

His comments come amid continued scrutiny of Pakistan’s team selection, leadership and tactical decisions following the disappointing series against England.
