PPESHAWAR Students have called for smaller administrative units in Pakistan to improve governance and address public issues as the debate over the creation of new provinces continues. Speaking about the proposed creation of new provinces, students in Peshawar said smaller administrative units could strengthen administrative control and make it easier for people to approach government authorities.

They said the division of existing provinces could also bring changes to the distribution of financial resources and the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. The said administrative control became easier and more effective when provinces are smaller in terms of geographical area.

They believed smaller administrative units could help ensure a fairer distribution of resources while also giving local political voices greater influence. Citizens also expressed support for the idea, arguing that having multiple chief ministers could make the system of governance more manageable and effective across different regions.
