Maryam Nawaz says clean Punjab is foundation for healthy, prosperous future

In her message on World Cleanup Day, Maryam Nawaz said the Suthra Punjab Project was laying the foundation for a new and healthier Punjab. She described it as the world’s largest project of its kind.

The chief minister said a systematic programme to clean 25,000 villages, along with cities, had been launched for the first time. She added that the cleanliness situation on roads, streets and in neighbourhoods across Punjab was also being monitored through Safe City cameras.

Maryam Nawaz said ensuring cleanliness in streets and neighbourhoods was the government’s responsibility, while maintaining cleanliness was the duty of citizens. She added that sustainable and environmentally friendly measures were being introduced under the Suthra Punjab Programme.

She said a clean environment helped prevent diseases and guaranteed a better quality of life. Making Punjab clean and green and ensuring the health of its people were among the government’s top priorities, she added.

The chief minister stated that keeping the planet clean was essential for protecting the environment and ensuring its survival. She described maintaining cleanliness in one’s surroundings as a collective social responsibility., arrangements were being made for waste recycling, waste management and the cleanliness of public places.

She said a clean Pakistan was the foundation of a healthy and developed Pakistan. The chief minister urged citizens to adopt proper methods for disposing of waste, avoid using plastic and play their full role in keeping their homes, streets and neighbourhoods clean.
