Petrol has been reduced by Rs1.70 per litre, while high-speed diesel has seen a larger cut of Rs3.12 per litre. The new prices have been fixed at Rs392.05 and Rs418.96 per litre, respectively.
The revision comes as the government moves towards the daily determination of petroleum product prices, allowing fuel rates to be adjusted more frequently in line with changes affecting the petroleum market. Petrol is widely used by private cars, motorcycles and other vehicles, while high-speed diesel is extensively used by commercial transport, heavy vehicles and other sectors.
The reduction in both products will therefore affect motorists as well as businesses and transport operators that rely on petroleum products.
