In a statement posted on X, the Navy identified the martyred personnel as Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II). The DGPR said both personnel “embraced martyrdom” while carrying out their duties.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two sailors and paid tribute to their service and sacrifice.2 PN personnel, Shoaib ur Rehman (PMA-IV) & Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II) embraced Shahadat while performing patrolling duties at sea to ensure security. The incident comes as the Pakistan Navy continues efforts to safeguard the country’s maritime interests amid a changing regional security environment. In March, the Navy launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to counter what it described as “multidimensional threats” to national shipping and maritime trade.
The operation was launched in response to evolving maritime security conditions and concerns over potential disruptions to critical sea lanes. Around 90 per cent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted by sea, making the security and uninterrupted operation of maritime routes vital to the country’s economy and national interests.
