KKOHAT —At least 25 people were injured in an explosion near the police lines in Kohat,. Police said the injured were being shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical treatment, where an emergency was declared following the blast.
The hospital administration later confirmed that at least 25 injured people had been brought to the facility. Police said the Kohat-Hangu Road had been closed to all traffic following the incident, while additional police personnel were deployed in the area near the police lines.
Rescue officials said the blast caused extensive damage to the outer portion of a mosque and also resulted in the collapse of a wall. Rescue teams were carrying out operations at the site of the explosion, officials said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid has taken notice of the blast at a mosque in the old police lines in Kohat and sought a report from the Kohat regional police officer., a vehicle loaded with explosives was rammed into the mosque near the old police lines, the IGP said.
The nature of the blast is being determined, while around 25 people have so far been injured, he added. The IGP further said an exchange of fire with armed militants was also underway following the explosion.
He directed authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical treatment without delay. Zulfiqar Hamid said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police stood as an iron wall against terrorism, adding that such cowardly attacks could not undermine their resolve.
He said the blood of the martyrs would not go to waste and vowed that terrorists and their facilitators would face severe consequences. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi took notice of the explosion at the old police lines in Kohat and strongly condemned the incident.
The chief minister sought a report from police authorities and directed officials to use all available resources to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured. He ordered hospitals to ensure prompt treatment and the availability of necessary medical facilities, while arrangements should be made to shift critically injured patients to other hospitals if required.
Afridi said targeting innocent citizens was highly regrettable and condemnable and directed authorities to examine all aspects of the incident and submit a detailed report.
