In meeting with Laiba Ijaz's father, Naqvi vows action against fraudsters

Laiba Ijaz, a gold medalist from the International Islamic University Islamabad, was found dead in the capital a day earlier. Police are investigating her suspected suicide and allegations that a man posing as a government official deceived her family with fraudulent university admission documents after taking money intended to finance her studies abroad.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Islamabad Police officials accompanied Naqvi during the visit. Laiba’s father briefed the interior minister on the situation, following which Naqvi assured the family that all possible assistance would be provided and the accused would be brought to justice.
Speaking to the media afterward, Naqvi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed authorities to arrest the accused. He stressed that those responsible would be punished, describing the case as a test for the government.

The interior minister further said police would play a key role in pursuing the case, while the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was also conducting an investigation. Naqvi added that government measures had helped reduce human trafficking, reiterating the authorities’ commitment to addressing the issue and ensuring accountability.
