'Ted Lasso' honours Anthony Head with emotional tribute

The tribute comes after Rupert's name was reintroduced into the storyline in the latest episode, despite Head's character not appearing in the current season. Head died in June at the age of 72 after developing complications from pneumonia.

His death came several months after the death of his long-term partner, Sarah Fisher, who died in December 2025 after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Head's acting career spanned more than four decades and included some of television's most recognisable roles.

He was best known internationally for playing Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while his other credits included King Uther in Merlin and the Prime Minister in Little Britain. The actor also had strong ties to Bath, where he lived with Fisher at Tilley Farm, her 90-acre animal sanctuary in Farmborough.

Fisher was an animal welfare advocate who cared for rescued horses, ponies and donkeys at the sanctuary. Fisher was also a long-standing patron of Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in North Somerset and supported several other animal charities, including Battersea Cats and Dogs Home.

Following her death, a Battersea spokesperson praised Fisher's contribution to the organisation, saying she had fostered dogs, used her expertise in canine behaviour to train staff and volunteers and contributed in numerous ways to animal welfare.

The latest Ted Lasso tribute adds to the recognition of Head's career following his death, while also acknowledging the lasting impact of his portrayal of Rupert Mannion on the Apple TV+ series.
