    Speaking to media in Islamabad on Saturday, Naqvi said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman could confirm the extent of his efforts to avoid reaching this stage. “Ask Maulana Fazlur Rehman how hard I tried to prevent this situation,” the interior minister said, referring to his efforts to avert the proposed emergency.

    Earlier, a high-level meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari at the President House discussed the provincial situation and decided to move forward with the emergency proposal,. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several federal ministers attended the meeting, which focused on the province’s security and law-and-order situation.
