Mai Subhai was reported to have been shot dead in Dera Bugti on Wednesday. The claim initially surfaced on social media before being picked up by other news organisations. It later emerged that the reports were false and that the folk singer had in fact died several decades ago.
A statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of South Dera Bugti on Thursday confirmed that reports regarding Mai Subhai’s alleged killing in the district were “incorrect and misleading”. The clarification came after the unverified claim gained widespread circulation across traditional and social media platforms.
