The Frida actor spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at the 2026 Women in Film Honors, held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on November 5. Hayek, who celebrated her 60th birthday on September 2, said reaching the milestone had turned out to be far less intimidating than she once imagined.
“I’m very optimistic. It sounded so scary when I was in my 20s, 30s, 40s, even 50s. It’s not scary at all.
Once you get there, you realize it’s not bad at all,” she said. Hayek added that she remains grateful for the life she has built and the opportunities she continues to pursue. “I’m still doing what I love, and I’m blessed to have family, friends, health, energy and dreams.

Let’s go,” she said. The actor also discussed her latest professional milestone, revealing that she recently made her feature directorial debut with Arena. Although the film has not yet been released, Hayek described the experience of directing as exciting.
When asked whether she planned to direct another film, she said she wanted to focus on completing her current project before considering what comes next. She emphasised the importance of staying in the present rather than rushing towards future plans.
Hayek has previously spoken about embracing the ageing process and maintaining a positive outlook on getting older. Shortly after her birthday, she shared photographs on Instagram celebrating the occasion, accompanied by the caption, “60 and grateful”.
Her milestone birthday also came during a significant period for her family. Hayek recently became a grandmother for the first time after her stepson François Pinault Jr. and his wife welcomed a baby boy named François.
The actor has said she plans to call her grandson “Panchito”. Hayek shares her daughter, Valentina, with her husband, François-Henri Pinault, and is also stepmother to his three children from previous relationships.
With a new decade underway and her first feature film as a director completed, Hayek says she remains focused on the things she loves, including her family, creative ambitions and the dreams she still hopes to pursue.
