The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), seeking an increase of Rs1.73 per unit in electricity prices for August.
Nepra is scheduled to hear the CPPA’s request on Tuesday., 14.464 billion units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (Discos) in August, at an average cost of Rs8.82 per unit. During the month under review, 37.84 per cent of electricity was generated from hydropower, 10.88 per cent from local coal and 15.59 per cent from imported coal.
Furnace oil accounted for 2.15 per cent of electricity generation. Electricity generated from local gas stood at 7.04 per cent, while imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) contributed 8.48 per cent. The CPPA’s request is part of the monthly fuel adjustment process, under which changes in fuel costs are passed on to electricity consumers after regulatory approval.
