Speaking during a recent podcast, HSY opened up about the difficulties he faced during his childhood and his mother’s sacrifices. He also recalled the incident that resulted in the loss of his vision., the accident occurred during Ramadan when he and a friend were returning after buying food for iftar.
His friend was driving when the call for prayer was made. He said he opened the food bag inside the car, and a large amount of steam suddenly came out, causing his vision to become blurred.
While his friend was trying to clear the car windows, the vehicle went off the road and crashed. HSY said he struck the windshield during the accident and lost vision in both eyes as a result.

Recalling the impact of the experience, he said the sudden loss of sight caused him severe mental stress and changed the way he viewed and experienced life. He added that after losing his vision, he had to rely more heavily on his other senses.
He recalled being able to hear his mother crying from several rooms away. HSY said his vision remained affected for approximately one year, after which he underwent treatment and multiple surgeries. He eventually regained his eyesight.
