Information ministry rejects reports of Islamabad road closures, says containers placed as precaution

“The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday rejected reports that roads across Islamabad had been closed ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned October 4 long march, saying…”
The clarification followed a report by Al Jazeera claiming that between 1,500 and 2,000 shipping containers had been taken into government custody to barricade roads in the federal capital ahead of the PTI protest. The PTI had initially planned to hold the long march on September 27 but later postponed it until October 4.
The party has said the demonstration is intended to demand the release of its jailed founder Imran Khan and the restoration of constitutional supremacy. The development comes despite talks between the government and opposition on Friday, with the PTI maintaining its decision to proceed with the planned march towards Islamabad.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has previously said the government would adopt a permanent strategy to deal with PTI protests, stressing that the country could not be kept shut for extended periods because of demonstrations.
