Punjab launches Phase II of CM e-Bike Scheme as registrations cross 432,000

The online portal for the scheme has been opened following the government’s initiatives for the Honhaar Scholarship and laptop distribution, providing students with another opportunity to obtain electric bikes., 265,000 students are currently in the registration process, while more than 108,000 applications have already been submitted for the e-bike scheme.
Eligible students can apply through the official portal, bikes.punjab.gov.pk, until October 4. Applicants must have a Punjab domicile or identity card and be regular students at a public or private degree college or university recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The minimum age for applicants is 18 years, and students must possess either a learner’s driving permit or a motorcycle driving licence. Only one student per family will be eligible to receive an e-bike under the scheme.

On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government has waived the down payment for students. The Punjab government will also bear the interest and insurance costs associated with the scheme. Students receiving the electric bikes will pay Rs3,028 per month,.
Each successful applicant will also receive a free helmet and safety rod along with the e-bike. Students will undergo two days of training to help them operate the vehicles safely. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the authorities to take steps to ensure that e-bikes are delivered within six weeks after completion of the application process.
