The PTA clarified that it had issued no such cyber security alert, rejecting the claims contained in the viral notification. The fake notice claimed that answering a call from a particular landline number could result in a user's mobile phone data and accounts being hacked.

It further alleged that hackers could steal a person's data within five to seven seconds during the call. The telecom regulator rejected the notification and advised users not to trust unverified warnings circulating across social media platforms.
