IISLAMABAD —The federal government has announced a significant reduction in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices, bringing relief to consumers as both major fuels become cheaper from Friday.

Petrol prices have been reduced by Rs9.41 per litre, while high-speed diesel has become cheaper by Rs5.56 per litre under the latest adjustment., petrol will now be available at Rs352.59 per litre, down from Rs362.00. The price of high-speed diesel has been lowered to Rs382.25 per litre from the previous rate of Rs387.81.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) confirmed that the revised petroleum prices would take effect on November 6 (Thursday). The latest reduction comes as Pakistan moves towards a daily fuel price review mechanism, allowing domestic petroleum rates to respond more quickly to fluctuations in international oil markets.

OGRA has also started publishing daily petroleum prices on its official website, a move aimed at improving transparency and ensuring that changes in international oil prices can be reflected in local rates more promptly. The government adopted the revised pricing approach amid continued volatility in global energy markets, fuelled by renewed hostilities and geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East.

Pakistan had previously shifted from a fortnightly to a weekly fuel price review system following the outbreak of the Middle East conflict on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran.

The conflict triggered major concerns over global energy supplies after Tehran shut the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that previously handled around one-fifth of the world's energy supplies.
