Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 5.5 ahead of planned IPO

Sonnet 5.5 is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, unchanged from its predecessor, Sonnet 5. Anthropic said the new model requires fewer tokens to complete the same tasks.
The company described Sonnet 5.5 as a faster, lower-cost complement to Claude Opus 5.5, which was launched last week at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. The launch comes amid growing debate over the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei earlier this month called on the global AI community to slow the pace of developing and releasing new capabilities to address safety concerns. Anthropic said enterprise customers account for about 80% of its business, with clients including Salesforce, Databricks, Goldman Sachs and Novo Nordisk.

The company said Sonnet 5.5 is designed for everyday enterprise tasks including coding, document creation and spreadsheet work. Anthropic is also preparing to launch a third model, Haiku 5.5, which is designed for fast, high-volume workloads.
