Rescue teams are continuing search operations in remote and badly affected areas, using helicopters, heavy machinery and excavators to reach people stranded by the disaster. Nepal’s Disaster Management Authority said at least 639 people were trapped at damaged hydropower stations, while around 300 workers were feared to be stranded inside tunnels.

More than 11,000 people have so far been rescued as emergency teams race to reach those still cut off by floodwaters, landslides and debris. Preliminary estimates by the United Nations Development Programme indicate that the floods have left behind around 2.2 million tonnes of debris, including rubble from buildings, rocks and mud.

Authorities are continuing relief and recovery operations, with rescue teams focusing on isolated communities and damaged hydropower facilities where survivors are still believed to be trapped.
