Sarmad Khoosat's 'Lali' to screen at BFI London Film Festival

The festival will present 251 features, shorts, series and immersive works from 88 countries this year, with Khoosat's work screening as part of the festival's "Laugh" strand.

The film, co-written by Khoosat and Sundus Hashmi, had its world premiere at the76th Berlin International Film Festivalin February this year, becoming the first fully Pakistani-produced feature film to screen at the Berlinale. It was produced as a collaboration between Khoosat Films and Dubai-based Enso Studios.

The filmfollows Zeba, played by Mamya Shajaffar, a young woman branded a "cursed bride" after three of her suitors die under mysterious circumstances. She is pushed into an arranged marriage with Sajawal, a man carrying his own troubled past and a facial birthmark, a setup the film plays as a pitch-black comedy with supernatural undertones.
