After Meher Bano's dig at online critics, Dr Ejaz Waris hits back

“What they show on screen and what they actually are is so different. Look at the language she is using. Can we even call you a celebrity?

“I don’t know which of her recent dramas was ever a hit, and I don’t see her in any movies. But I know she made some reels on suicide. All of her work has flopped, and she has nothing to do.

Bichari, she does not even know acting. So she is like, okay, let’s just talk about Dr Ejaz,” he added. The commentator also used the exchange to address the wider criticism directed at him, maintaining that he speaks out on issues he considers important in Pakistan and focuses on celebrities’ public work rather than their private lives.

“Whenever something bad happens in the country, like a child dies or is raped, I have always raised my voice. Now they are here to defend dances. You guys have nothing to do with this.

I have never spoken about your personal lives. I have only criticised the work that is publicly shown,” he said. Turning specifically to his criticism of Amna Ilyas’ dance performance, Dr Waris said he believed Bano’s response had shifted attention away from the substance of his criticism.

“The whole world has made fun of your friend’s dances, so it is not cool to dress up like me and wear my glasses. Note that someone is just criticising your wrongs and focusing on your work,” he said.
