PIMS fire death toll rises to 15 as surviving infant dies

IISLAMABAD —The death toll from the PIMS Hospital fire has risen to 15 after Aizal, the only infant rescued alive from the blaze, died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit., a nurse safely rescued Aizal during the fire, after which the infant was shifted to the intensive care unit for treatment.
However, she later died during treatment, taking the number of children killed in the PIMS Hospital fire to 15. Aizal’s mother, Asifa Bibi, said her daughter was six months and 10 days old and had been born on August 12.
She said the infant had been affected by smoke and was their first child. Earlier reports confirmed that one infant had been rescued from the PIMS nursery fire while 14 newborns were reported dead.
