VVIENNA —Austria has enforced a new law banning girls under the age of 14 from wearing the hijab and burqa in schools, with the legislation applying to educational institutions across the country., the ban has now come into force under legislation introduced by the three-party coalition government led by conservatives.
The new law prohibits students under 14 from wearing the hijab and burqa at school. The legislation could potentially conflict with Austria’s Constitution. The Austrian court had previously struck down a ban on headscarves in primary schools in 2020.
Under the newly enforced law, girls below the age of 14 are prohibited from wearing the hijab and burqa in schools across Austria.
