Hundreds of attendees were required to lock their phones in pouches before entering the theatre, while security guards with night-vision goggles monitored the audience. Festival director Julie Huntsinger had previously described the film as involving “very known names”.
Before the screening, she told. The Times, “Do not miss it. Your jaw will be on the ground for the entire length of the film.”Huntsinger later introduced Fielder and documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, who co-directed the film.

The filmmakers were given access to her life with partner Billy Evans and their young children as Holmes sought to present what she called “radical transparency”.

The documentary gradually moves beyond conventional filmmaking, incorporating reenactments and elements that blur reality and performance. Fielder also becomes part of the story as he questions whether Holmes and Evans are being candid or manipulating the filmmakers.
During a post-screening Q&A moderated by Emma Stone, Fielder said, “I really am struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced in this.” He added, “I don’t quite know what I went through.”A24 is scheduled to release.
