On June 21, 2025, Pakistan announced itsdecision to recommend Trumpfor the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in helping secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The government said his intervention had helped avert a wider conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The ceasefire was announced on May 10, after days of military exchanges, with Trump saying the United States had mediated the agreement. He later claimed that trade pressure had helped bring the two sides to an understanding.
Trump did not win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. In January 2026, Machado presented her medalto Trumpduring a meeting at the White House, saying the gesture recognised his commitment to the freedom of the Venezuelan people.
Trump thanked her, saying she had presented him with the prize for the work he had done. The Norwegian Nobel Committee subsequently clarified that although a laureate could give away the physical medal, the prize itself remained inseparably linked to the person who had won it.

“They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me,” he, adding that he had been “very honored” to receive the award indirectly through Machado the previous year. He also argued that his involvement in multiple conflicts merited recognition.
