    LLAHORE A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against an increase in petroleum product prices in Pakistan., petrol became Rs29.95 per litre more expensive between September 7 and 11, while the price of diesel increased by Rs25.27 per litre during the same five-day period.

    The petitioner claimed that petroleum prices are being increased on a daily basis, pushing the price of diesel above Rs400 per litre. The petition stated that repeated fuel price increases are affecting transportation, agriculture and the prices of essential commodities.

    It added that salaried employees and low-income households are facing the greatest impact from rising fuel costs.

    The petitioner also compared diesel prices in Pakistan with those in other countries, claiming that diesel is around Rs140 per litre more expensive than in Bangladesh, Rs122 higher than in India, Rs106 more than in Afghanistan and approximately Rs77 more than in Sri Lanka.

    The petitioner has pleaded the high court to summon records relating to the petroleum levy, taxes and the margins of oil marketing companies and dealers. The petition further sought details of the mechanism used to determine petroleum product prices in the country.
