Fire safety tightened after deadly blaze

In a letter issued to healthcare facilities, the IHRA directed them to reassess their fire and life-protection systems and adopt measures in line with modern safety requirements to protect patients and staff. Healthcare facilities have been instructed to obtain fire-safety no-objection certificates from the Capital Development Authority (CDA)'s Fire Department and ensure that registered contractors install fire-protection systems.
The facilities have further been directed to install fire-detection, alarm and suppression systems and ensure the availability and functionality of hydrants and fire extinguishers. The authority further ordered healthcare facilities to ensure the availability and functionality of emergency exits.
