North America and Eurasia may still be one continent, scientists claim

“A University of Derby geologist claims North America and Eurasia may remain connected, citing underwater mountain formations between their tectonic plates. LAHOR…”
LLAHORE —A geologist associated with the University of Derby in the United Kingdom, Dr Jordan Phethean, has made a surprising claim based on his latest research that North America and Eurasia (Europe and Russia) may still be considered a single continent. Dr Phethean and his team examined a 2,000-kilometre-long underwater mountain range beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
The range lies between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, extending from Greenland through Iceland to Scotland., the two tectonic plates separated around 55 million years ago. However, Dr Phethean's team discovered several locations along the underwater mountain range where the two plates remain connected.
The findings suggest that, from a geological perspective, North America and Eurasia may still form a single continent. Both landmasses were part of the supercontinent Pangaea around 200 to 250 million years ago.
