Following complaints from users, Instagram has decided to revise its policy on accounts featuring AI-generated fictional personalities.
Such accounts will not be completely banned, but their labels will be changed to make their artificial nature clearer., the existing “AI Creator” label will be replaced with “AI Generated Profile,” making it clear to users that the profile represents an AI-created character rather than a real person.
The platform said AI-generated profiles without appropriate labels will also face reduced reach, meaning their posts will be shown to fewer users. Instagram said the changes were introduced in response to user feedback. The platform began testing the “AI Creator” label earlier this year to address the growing trend of AI-generated fictional characters and profiles.
